Choosing to take part in a sober living environment may increase the likelihood of attaining and remaining abstinent from drugs and alcohol given the structure and accountability components of the group living requirements. Residents are expected to abide by house rules to maintain consistent living arrangements. House rules and requirements vary at each residence, so be sure to review before choosing the home that best fits your goals and needs. Sober homes are not licensed by state monitoring boards as they do not provide treatment services. Housing options include private residences as well as homes that abide by association guidelines to include (National Association of Recovery Residences – NARR) and Oxford House Inc.
