When I drank or got high, I wanted to be next to comatose. I couldn’t imagine my life without me having something in my system. From heroin to vodka, I became a woman with no joy, no hope and no plans. I was pissed off because I woke up. When I got to AA and NA, I didn’t understand how these people could be so happy clean and sober. When I got to meetings, I was the first one to leave and the last one to come. I was on the outside looking in.
At one meeting I saw these women at a table, and they were laughing and dressed really nice. I wished I could be like them. So little by little, I got to sit at that table. I now know what it’s like to be living with nothing in my system but joy and happiness. I sponsor one woman and help my home group as much as I can.
I started the Lenny Bruce Memorial Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, in 2008. We help those who cannot help themselves or do not have the funds or insurance to get treatment. If you’d like to get ahold of us please go to lennybruce.orgor call (570) 239-4293. We do have scholarships available.
